A program of distribution of surplus female calves/heifers/cows/buffaloes available in all livestock areas of the department under “Amrita Siri” scheme to farmers/devasi/widows/war widows/cremation workers in districts where breeds are available at 25% of book price. Thereby farmers are encouraged to breed more indigenous breeds of cows.

Assistance is being provided at the rate of Rs.17.50/- per cattle per day for the maintenance of unproductive and abandoned cows in government and private goshalas of the state.

Due relevance shall also be given to vaccination against zoonotic diseases like anthrax and rabies for which assistance shall be given to the States/ UTs as per proposals received from them.

The scheme envisages a subsidy of up to 75% of the cost of cowshed installation, purchase of cattle and farming management. The subsidy will be offered on purchase of Sahiwal, Gyr and Tharparkar breed of cows in the units of two, four, 15 and 20 cows.

Under the scheme, subsidy to the tune of 50% of the unit cost on livestock purchase (Livestock component only) will be provided after the establishment of livestock units. The subsidy will be provided three months after teh purchase of livestock or disbursement of Loan by bank, whichever is later and subjeet to verification of unit by concerned veterinary surgeon. Unit should be finance through loan from the bank/financial institutions. This subsidy would be rovided in the loan account of the beneficiary.

Foot and Mouth disease of cloven footed animals (cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat etc) is a serious problem for farmers as this disease is responsible for huge economic loss for them. The disease is characterized by development of vesicles in foot, mouth, udder etc.For prevention of the economic losses due to FMD and to develop herd immunity the program of controlling the disease is implemented in all the states of India. In Assam it is now implemented in 15 districts and will be expanded to cover entire state.
