ROP can stand for Retention of Placenta, a condition that occurs when the fetal membranes are not expelled within 12 hours of giving birth. It’s a common condition in cows, and can be caused by a number of factors, including:
Abortion, Dystocia, Milk fever, Twin birth, Induction of calving, Infection, and Nutritional disturbances.
To avoid complications, you should consult a veterinarian and not try to pull the placenta out yourself. If you do remove the placenta, you should dispose of it by deep burial and avoid handling it with bare hands.
ROP can also refer to retinopathy of prematurity, which is treated with anti-VEGF therapy. However, there are concerns about the potential adverse effects of this treatment, including local and systemic effects.
